"KISS Destroyer"

Tom brought in his 'Impact' helmet to finally put into action an idea that he has had for nearly 10 years. When he was in the 3rd grade, he bought his first record ever, the 'KISS Destroyer' album. Since then, Tom has been a fan of KISS, and even still has the vinyl record. For the last 10 years, he has thought about getting his helmet airbrushed, featuring the 'KISS Destroyer' album cover, and after searching for an airbrush artist, and finding Shawn, Tom is finally getting it done.

Shawn is using a combination of colors to create the background.

Tom's nickname is 'Sox', so Shawn is duplicating the 'KISS' font for Tom's name.

The background is complete, and Shawn is beginning to paint the 'KISS' members.

It is at this point in the project that Shawn realized he is going to have many hours of brush detail invested in this design.

Tom came in to pick up his helmet, and was very pleased with the result.

"Tom is a cool guy and I am glad he was happy with the final product. It was a very challenging, but rewarding project for me. Thanks Tom. Hope to see you in the future."

Helen C. Cannon Jr. High School

Recently, Shawn received a yearbook from Helen C. Cannon Jr. High School, which features the mural that he painted at the beginning of the year, on its cover. It is a great honor for Shawn to see his artwork displayed in such generous ways.

Surfboard

One thing Shawn has learned about painting surfboards, is that each one is unique because each one is actually hand shaped. When Shawn paints a surfboard, he leaves the actual signature of the 'board shaper' on the back. This board was shaped by Price St. Clair.

First, Shawn repaired cracks and splits in the board with a thin layer of fiberglass. Then, he filler primed the board.

After that, he sanded it smooth and began with a Kandy Orange base, followed with a pearlized blue base graphic.

He then used an 'Old School' lace trick to airbrush the lace pattern.

Then came 3 colors of free style pinstriping to create this incredible board.

To top it off, Shawn added more blue pearl in the final clear coat.
