Robert Taylor Elementary Mural

Robert Taylor Elementary school contacted Shawn about painting a large mural in the courtyard of their brand new campus. At the old campus, Shawn had painted a mural of an American flag, but it was recently knocked down to make room for the new campus.

The theme for this mural was inspired by their previous mural. The central focus is the American flag, waving, as if in the wind.

After Shawn makes the 1ft x 1ft grid, he begins sketching the flag. Because the mural is so big, standing 28ft tall, and 30 ft wide, Shawn is using a set of scaffolding to reach the top half.

After he finished the flag, he painted an eagle soaring over top. On the left side of the mural stands the Statue of Liberty, and Mount Rushmore sits at the bottom.

Shawn begins painting in the colors of the flag, the Statue of Liberty, and the sky in the background.

Shawn finishes the night sky around the eagle, and added purple, blue, and white highlights to bring the flag to life. He begins painting the Liberty Bell to the right of the flag, and is seen adding detail to the Statue of Liberty.

Above the Liberty Bell, Shawn painted a man on the moon, portraying Neil Armstrong, with his spacecraft and the American flag, with Earth seen in the background. Shawn also finished the details on the Liberty Bell, and painted small stars in the bottom left corner of the flag, right above the place designated for Mount Rushmore.

As Mount Rushmore is completed, Shawn included stars and peace signs, which were also a part of the old mural.

Having gone to Robert Taylor Elementary many years ago, Shawn was excited to have the opportunity to paint this mural, which took nearly 3 weeks to complete.
"Art is such an inspiration to children and having an educational focus with each piece of this mural is a great thing."

More Chief AJ gun stocks

Chief AJ, of Tuscola, IL, sent Shawn two more stocks to airbrush. The first stock is inspired by the TV show, 'Anything Wild', which Chief AJ appeared on and offered his knowledge in one of his areas of expertise as they hunted for deer and buffalo.

The backgroud for this stock is painted to look like buffalo grass, and Shawn included feathers, and the 'Anything Wild' logo.

The other side of the stock is adorned with a buffalo and some small pinstripe designs.

Shawn painted the second stock for the Chief's friend, Buddy. Buddy's nephew was killed by a road side bomb, and he wanted this stock to be painted as a tribute to him, which will be donated to his nephew's company commander in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, and displayed in a glass case.

This gun stock is named 'Freedom America', and both sides have an eagle, but if you look closely, they are two very different eagles. One side has a realistic eagle, and the other has it's head shaped out of a cluster of stars. The stock also has red and white stripes, and stars symbolizing the American flag. Special thanks to Buddy for allowing Shawn this special opportunity.

Day Racing

Shawn had the privelage of painting father/son helmets while he was in Illinois. Paul Day and his son Tyler Day go to the tracks together and race. Paul started racing 16 years ago at Coles County Speedway in Charleston, IL. Just in the last 7 years, Paul has won 4 track championships, 1 national championship, 2 regional championships, and over 60 feature wins.

Shawn airbrushed a racing flag on the front of the helmet, purple flames over the top, and finished with a pinstripe centerpiece.

Shawn also airbrushed the sponsor's logo, "Bee Graphics".

Tyler started racing a junior sprint car in 2002, but soon decided it wasn't quite what he wanted to do. Just 5 years later, in 2007, he decided to give it another try and has continued for the last year. So far, he has already won 2 features, and is well on his way to winning the track championship.

His helmet is adorned with real fire and a larger pinstipe design.

The family was very happy with the finished product. Good luck to Paul and Tyler, and we hope to see you soon.

Recovered 1994 painting

Marcia contacted Shawn after finding this painting on the side of the road, waiting to be disposed of. Not able to pass it up, she and her son Danny picked up the painting and brought it to their home. They put the phrase 'One person's trash may be another's treasure' into full perspective.

Shawn painted this painting nearly 15 years ago, in 1994. Back then, Shawn was traveling back and forth to California doing numerous art shows. Though he showed many paintings, a majority of the people hired Shawn to paint a commissioned piece. Shawn is very happy that Marcia and Danny discovered this painting, and kept it from going to ruins.

Tuscola, IL 4th of July Celebration

Shawn spent nearly 2 weeks in Tuscola, IL visiting with family and friends, and staying up until 1 am nearly every day finishing projects. He traveled to Tuscola to participate in the 4th of July Celebration, setting up an airbrush booth and painting shirts all day, along with helmets, back drops, tables, and trucks.

This is a 8ft x 30ft back drop for the County pageant which Shawn adorned with the Wrigley Field Ivy Wall.

These gentlemen brought a baseball helmet to the booth for Shawn to paint on the spot.

Bridget and her dad were happy with the outcome of this beautiful design.

Chief AJ paid a visit and had Shawn paint 3 T-shirts with the focus on his Red River Camp and the gun stocks that Shawn previously painted for him.

Ali is sporting her own SED Custom Cap while she poses with Chief AJ's shirt.

Shawn lettered the back of Scott's truck to match his back window and license plate. If 'turkey killer' was in the dictionary, there would be a photograph of Scott right beside it. If there were any doubt he's not the true hunter, look below at the shirts he got for his kids.

Susan and Scott hold up shirts for their own 'Lil Turkey Killers', Hunter and Haydyn.

'Sillky J' designed his own SED Custom Cap.

Chad called Shawn in Illinois and put in his request for a shirt. We brought this one back for Rock & Roll Chad.
